Flock IS Family

Hello Glendale High School Families,

I want to thank each and every one of you for sharing your student with us this year, and for allowing us to have a chance to impact their life in a positive way.  This blog will serve as a tool to communicate important information to Glendale families.  This is not all-inclusive, so please check out social media and the school website for information.

Hey Glendale: are you or a family member currently serving in the military or have previously served?  Our Veteran’s Day Assembly will be November 11, 2021, and we would love a chance to honor our service members. There will be a light breakfast, assembly, and lunch for all honorees plus one guest at Glendale High School. Please complete the Veteran’s Day Participant Form if you or a service member you’ve invited would like to attend.  We understand that not everyone feels comfortable in large groups right now so you also have the option to view the assembly on Instagram Live.

(Updated 10/20/21World Language Career Day
Attention Glendale parents and Guardians. SPS World Language classes will be hosting its first annual “World Language Career Day” on 10/27/2021. Here is a link to the flyer. This is a virtual event celebrating multilingual careers and informing participants on the benefits of bilingualism in the workforce.  While we discuss bilingualism in the context of careers in class, we want our students to have the opportunity to connect with professionals in a variety of fields so they can learn first-hand about multilingualism in careers. We will have over 20 community members from the Springfield area and worldwide who will present the need for bilingualism in the workplace.  Some organizations that will be joining us are Cox Health, the FBI, Newman Law Firm, Sherwin-Williams, NestlĂ©-Purina, Quest Diagnostics, and the US Department of State.  For more information or to view the Schedule of Presentations via Zoom, please contact a Foreign Language teacher.

A+ Program Updates
The A+ Program provides scholarship funds for eligible graduates to attend most Missouri community colleges and technical schools. In addition, several four-year Missouri colleges and universities offer their own scholarship for A+ qualified students. Last year our A+ graduates could earn as much as $10,000 towards their college tuition and general fees.

Glendale makes the A+ program fun by providing promotional activities and events each school year. Each year we have around 50% of graduates qualify for the A+ program. For more information about the Glendale A+ Program, students can check out their A+ CANVAS course which lists A+ Program Resources, visit the A+ website or follow us on Twitter @glendaleAplus.

If you have any questions please contact Jenny Cofield, Glendale A+ Program Coordinator.

Student Grades
Please check your student's grades for seated courses in eSchool.  We will continue to post student grades in eSchool.  It is vital that students start strong.  Please check your student's grades online, and communicate with your student's teachers.  Our goal is that all students are academically successful, please encourage your student to submit all assignments.

If your student is taking a LAUNCH course or is fully virtual, their grades will be kept updated in Canvas.

eSchool is where you see your students' grades (completed assignments) and Canvas is where you see what they are doing, and what they will be doing (current and future assignments and learning).
    Grades & D/F Phone Calls
Grades in eSchool are the official grades for seated students.  GHS will continue sending phone messages to the homes of students who have a D or F in any of their classes. If you haven't started checking eSchool grades please do so.  If you receive the phone call please check eSchool to see what class(es) your student has the D/F. We also recommend you contact the teacher with questions, concerns, or you feel an error has been made.

For clarification, the report used to determine who receives these calls runs at 4:30 a.m.
the day you receive the call. It is possible teachers update grades during the course of the
day. Again, please check eSchool on a regular basis and direct questions to the teacher(s).
