Flock IS Family (10/05/22)

Hello Glendale High School Families,

I want to thank each and every one of you for sharing your student with us this year, and for allowing us to have a chance to impact their life in a positive way.  This blog will serve as a tool to communicate important information to Glendale families.  This is not all-inclusive, so please check out social media and the school website for information.

Glendale High School Mission and Vision
Mission: To inspire personally-driven, community-focused, and globally connected learners.
Vision: Learners refine their unique abilities to positively impact our world.

(Updated 10/03/22) This Week In GHS Sports
Below is our schedule of events for next week:

(Updated 10/04/22) Updated Policies for Athletic Events
All high school students who attend athletic events MUST wear an ID badge to the event, and keep it on during the event.  Students may not bring bags or backpacks into events, and no outside food or drink is allowed.  Students will enter through a student entrance, and will not be admitted unless adhering to these policies.

Middle School students will not be admitted to High School events without a parent who stays on-site for the entirety of the event.  All Middle School students will be required to stay in the bleachers, and are not allowed to move around in the stadium.

(Updated 10/05/22) Duel Credit/Dual Enrollment Scholarship Is Now Open
This program was changed significantly during the 2022 legislative session.  It is no longer associated with the A+ Scholarship and financial need is now required for eligibility rather than being used to determine award ranking.

Beginning with the fall 2022 semester, high school students may be eligible to receive a scholarship that covers the tuition and fees for their dual credit or dual enrollment courses. To qualify, students must demonstrate financial need and be taking dual credit or dual enrollment courses from a Missouri college or university in addition to meeting the program’s eligibility criteria.

The application is available electronically through the State Financial Aid Portal for the 2022-2023 academic year. Students will be required to create an account in MDHEWD’s Student Portal to access the application. Information about the Student Portal is available here.

(Updated 09/28/22) Homecoming Information
The Homecoming Dance is Friday, October 7th from 8:00-10:00 PM.  Tickets go on sale September 29th. They can be purchased for $15 during lunch in the commons or on-line at My School Bucks If tickets are purchased on-line students will need to bring their receipt to the ticket table during lunch to obtain their actual Homecoming Ticket. Tickets will be sold for a discounted price of $10 if purchased on 9/29 or 9/30. A Dance Guest Request Form must be on file prior to purchasing a ticket for a non-Glendale student.  These forms can be picked up in the main office or in the A+ Office. If you would like to attend please e-mail Mrs. Cofield at jcofield@spsmail.org. Seats will be based on the time the e-mail is received. There is a limit of two guests per student. School Lunch Information
Student breakfasts and lunches have returned to our previous, before pandemic, pricing guidelines.  All meals must be paid for according to your students’ status. Current prices are  $1.60 full price breakfast, $.30 reduced,  $3.20 lunch, $.40 reduced.  We encourage all guardians to complete a free/reduced price application, if not already done so this year.  Your student can request one at the main office, or at the cash registers during meal services.  You can also apply online on the sps.org website following a link on the right side of the page entitled “free reduced meal application”.  To prepay the meals, you can either send cash or check with your student, bring it in yourself, or add online on the mypaymentsplus.com website.  Be aware the online option does charge a percentage fee based on the amount you add.  You should have received a packet of information regarding all this before school started.  There is a new policy in place, requiring Cafeteria managers to reach out via phone call daily to accounts that exceed charges of $5.00.   We ask you either apply, or make payments on the delinquencies as soon as possible.  If you have any more questions, you may call our Cafeteria Manager at (417) 523-8990.

Wednesday Is Late Start
Glendale High School teachers participate in professional learning weekly, on Wednesday mornings.  Students may still arrive at the normal times, but their school day does not start until 8:40 AM on Wednesdays (8:10 AM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday).  On Wednesday morning, we provide supervision for students in the cafeteria.

A+ Program Updates
The A+ Program provides scholarship funds for eligible graduates to attend most Missouri community colleges and technical schools. In addition, several four-year Missouri colleges and universities offer their own scholarship for A+ qualified students. Last year our A+ graduates could earn as much as $10,000 towards their college tuition and general fees.

Glendale makes the A+ program fun by providing promotional activities and events each school year. Each year we have around 50% of graduates qualify for the A+ program. For more information about the Glendale A+ Program, students can check out their A+ CANVAS course which lists A+ Program Resources, visit the A+ website or follow us on Twitter @glendaleAplus.

If you have any questions please contact Jenny Cofield, Glendale A+ Program Coordinator.

The Branch
Students needing free food, hygiene and/or clothing supplies…  GHS is proud to have The Branch Hygiene, Clothing, and Food Outreach Program inventory available to our students at no cost!  Please see Mr. Faucher or Mrs. Patton for any needs.

Student Grades
Please check your student's grades for seated courses in eSchool.  We will continue to post student grades in eSchool.  It is vital that students start strong.  Please check your student's grades online, and communicate with your student's teachers.  Our goal is that all students are academically successful, please encourage your student to submit all assignments.

If your student is taking a LAUNCH course or is fully virtual, their grades will be kept updated in Canvas.

eSchool is where you see your students' grades (completed assignments) and Canvas is where you see what they are doing, and what they will be doing (current and future assignments and learning).

    Grades & D/F Phone Calls
Grades in eSchool are the official grades for seated students.  GHS will continue sending phone messages to the homes of students who have a D or F in any of their classes. If you haven't started checking eSchool grades please do so.  If you receive the phone call please check eSchool to see what class(es) your student has the D/F. We also recommend you contact the teacher with questions, concerns, or you feel an error has been made.

For clarification, the report used to determine who receives these calls runs at 4:30 a.m.
the day you receive the call. It is possible teachers update grades during the course of the
day. Again, please check eSchool on a regular basis and direct questions to the teacher(s).
