(Updated 01/04/23) Glendale Flock Together Event
The GHS Flock Together event is nearing. The event will be held on January 25th for the first half of the school day. The event is a conference style event that has a focus on student well being. We will have a keynote speaker for the entire student body, in an assembly style event. We will then have guest speakers who will Zoom with all students on the topics of Healthy Lifestyles (Drug and Alcohol Prevention), Healthy Relationships, and Mental Wellness (Coping Skills). Our hope is that this is a positive event that will support all of our students as they navigate high school and beyond.

8th graders and parents: Future Falcons, please join us for an
informational meeting on Tuesday, January 24th from 6-7:30 in the
Glendale High School auditorium. The evening will include the opportunity for
your student to meet their freshman teachers and engage in some fun activities.
Parents will learn important information to aid in a successful transition from
middle school to high school. We look forward to meeting you!

At SPS U on January 26, attendees can expect to experience the following:
Multiple sessions to help support high school families and students.
Several session topics relevant to high school learners such as: Navigating Canvas and Home Access Center, College Prep 101, Social Media Safety, Caring for our Mental Health, and more!
Resource fair to help families connect with community partners to get information and resources to help support their needs.
Free childcare for children ages 4-8.
Free dinner for the entire family.
The event will be held on Thursday, January 26 at Hillcrest High School from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Deadline to register is Tuesday, January 17. Learn more and register at www.sps.org/spsuniversity.

Is your student proficient in more than one language? If
the answer to this question is YES, then he or she may qualify to take the Seal
of Biliteracy test which can earn up to eighteen free credit hours at
qualifying universities. The GHS Foreign Language department will be
administering a test of biliteracy (the AAPPL exam) on Wednesday, March 1st in
the library. If he or she is proficient in both English and another
language, please encourage him or her to come talk to Mrs. Dinamarca in room
324 to see if he or she qualifies to take the exam. Deadline to register is
2/10/2023.

Parents of Freshman -
If your student expects to reach AP Chemistry during high school, they MUST
take Honors Chemistry their Sophomore year. There are 3 years of chemistry
offered at Glendale: Honors Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry and AP Chemistry.
This means that if they wait until their Junior year to take Honors Chemistry,
they will not be able to do all 3 chemistry courses.
(Updated 12/14/22) Glendale Academy Model Updates
As we near the end of first semester, we will begin the planning for next school year. One piece of that planning process is the scheduling of students in courses. That process will begin with students in January, and conversations around scheduling are already taking place. Prior to scheduling, I wanted to share some important shifts in our academic programming with you. Glendale High School is an Academy High School. We work diligently to prepare students for their post high school experiences, whether that be entering the work force, the military, a two year or four year university. For the past four years we have been working within three Academies; STEM Academy, Business and Law Academy, and Technology and Design Academy.
After seeking and receiving feedback from the Glendale community, we have made the decision to expand our Academy model to offer additional options for students. A listing of the new Glendale Academy Model is linked below. Within the below link you will find six Academies: Health Services Academy, Industrial Technology and Engineering Academy, Human Services Academy, Natural Resources and Agriculture Academy, Business and Computer Technology Academy, and Arts and Communication Academy. You will also find the courses that students will take within the Academy of their choice.
As we begin to schedule students for next year, this information will be very important. All Glendale 10-12th grade students will be able to choose their Academy and the associated Pathway course, no matter what Academy they are currently in. We are hopeful that many students will continue in their current Academy and Pathway, but with the change, want to allow students to realign their Pathway choice with their interest. Your student’s counselor will meet with your student during scheduling at some time between January and March to discuss their Academy and Pathway choice. We strongly believe that this Academy expansion will be a positive change for our students, and thank you for your support as we work to help students explore their career and post-secondary options.

(Updated 12/16/22) It's A Tradition- Sophomore Fundraiser for class of 2025
To help raise money for the Class of 25' prom and Project
Graduation the sophomore class officers Adalynn Miller, Alex Morrow, and Salem Gregg have put together some holiday-themed activities during lunches; selling hot cocoa and candy-cane grams. Students are encouraged to purchase any or all of the items during their designated lunch period for $2. Class officers and representatives oversee planning and execution of lunch shifts, including volunteers for running sales and delivery of hot chocolate/candy grams.

Project Graduation is a wonderful way for our new graduates to celebrate with their entire graduation class in a safe, adult-supervised, and FUN environment. Project Graduation is an all-night, drug and alcohol-free celebration that includes hours of games, activities, music, food, and giveaways. This is the 39th annual Project Graduation to be held through the night, after the commencement ceremony, for Springfield Public Schools graduating seniors.

After School Tutoring Available!
Glendale will offer after-school tutoring for all content areas on Mondays and Fridays in room 203, and Wednesdays in room 271. Tutoring will last from 3:15-4:15 PM. Students just show up to those classrooms on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, and tutoring will be available.

Starting today, students will begin being charged student device fees. Below are the device fee items and the charges associated.

School Lunch Information
Student breakfasts and lunches have returned to our previous, before pandemic, pricing guidelines. All meals must be paid for according to your students’ status. Current prices are $1.60 full price breakfast, $.30 reduced, $3.20 lunch, $.40 reduced. We encourage all guardians to complete a free/reduced price application, if not already done so this year. Your student can request one at the main office, or at the cash registers during meal services. You can also apply online on the sps.org website following a link on the right side of the page entitled “free reduced meal application”. To prepay the meals, you can either send cash or check with your student, bring it in yourself, or add online on the mypaymentsplus.com website. Be aware the online option does charge a percentage fee based on the amount you add. You should have received a packet of information regarding all this before school started. There is a new policy in place, requiring Cafeteria managers to reach out via phone call daily to accounts that exceed charges of $5.00. We ask you either apply, or make payments on the delinquencies as soon as possible. If you have any more questions, you may call our Cafeteria Manager at (417) 523-8990.
Wednesday Is Late Start
Glendale High School teachers participate in professional learning weekly, on Wednesday mornings. Students may still arrive at the normal times, but their school day does not start until 8:40 AM on Wednesdays (8:10 AM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday). On Wednesday morning, we provide supervision for students in the cafeteria.

Fees and Fines
To pay off your students' fees online or with a credit card, please follow the instructions below for an easy way to pay.
Getting started is a simple three-step process!
2. Create a user profile with your email address, establish a password, and set up your security questions.
3. Add a Student to your account using the student’s name and date of birth or student ID number. Note: student ID numbers can be obtained by contacting the school.
Now you’re ready to make payments!

If you do not know your login, contact the Glendale main office at 417-523-8901, and the office staff will provide this information.
The A+ Program provides scholarship funds for eligible graduates to attend most Missouri community colleges and technical schools. In addition, several four-year Missouri colleges and universities offer their own scholarship for A+ qualified students. Last year our A+ graduates could earn as much as $10,000 towards their college tuition and general fees.
Glendale makes the A+ program fun by providing promotional activities and events each school year. Each year we have around 50% of graduates qualify for the A+ program. The Branch
Students needing free food, hygiene and/or clothing supplies… GHS is proud to have The Branch Hygiene, Clothing, and Food Outreach Program inventory available to our students at no cost! Please see Mr. Faucher or Mrs. Patton for any needs.
Student Grades
Please check your student's grades for seated courses in eSchool. We will continue to post student grades in eSchool. It is vital that students start strong. Please check your student's grades online, and communicate with your student's teachers. Our goal is that all students are academically successful, please encourage your student to submit all assignments.
If your student is taking a LAUNCH course or is fully virtual, their grades will be kept updated in Canvas.
eSchool is where you see your students' grades (completed assignments) and Canvas is where you see what they are doing, and what they will be doing (current and future assignments and learning).
Grades & D/F Phone Calls
Grades in eSchool are the official grades for seated students. GHS will continue sending phone messages to the homes of students who have a D or F in any of their classes. If you haven't started checking eSchool grades please do so. If you receive the phone call please check eSchool to see what class(es) your student has the D/F. We also recommend you contact the teacher with questions, concerns, or you feel an error has been made.
For clarification, the report used to determine who receives these calls runs at 4:30 a.m.

day. Again, please check eSchool on a regular basis and direct questions to the teacher(s).
