Below is our schedule of events for next week:

(Updated 08/22/23) Students Attending Athletic Events at GHS
All students must follow the rules/expectations below:
  • All high school students must wear/possess their school ID badges at games. NO ID means NO entry to the game.
  • All students must remain in the stands during the game except to go to the concession stand or restrooms.
  • No bags/backpacks will be allowed under any circumstances. They have to leave them in their car or make a plan to leave them somewhere secure outside of the facility.
(Updated 09/18/23) From the School Nurses
A free seasonal flu vaccine clinic will be held at Glendale on Monday, October 9th. Permission forms and vaccine information sheets are posted on the school website. If you would like for your child to participate, please complete the permission form and return it to the school nurse with your student by October 5th. Written parental consent is required for your child to participate.  There is no need to call to schedule an appointment.

(Updated 09/18/23) GHS Service Learning Hours
Attention all Service learners and those interested in helping out our community this winter.  The PTSA Clothing Bank is in need of adult sized coats, underwear and socks.  Gently used coats are fine but new items on the others would be appreciated.  For every box of these items that you bring in, you will award you 5 hours of Service Learning hours.  Please see Mrs. Dinamarca for more information.  Let's help the PTSA help those that need it most in our community. Drop off all boxes to Room 324 on/before October 15.

(Updated 09/22/23) Naviance Information
Parents and guardians, please see below for information about Naviance.  This information also shares ACT test preparation materials.

(Updated 09/05/23) After School Tutoring Information

(Updated 09/14/23) From the Counseling Office
Tuesday, October 3rd from 5pm to 7pm is the SPS College and Career Fair at Hillcrest High School. There will be college reps from all over the country there to talk about what their schools have to offer. There will be many local workforce and military reps as well. If transportation to Hillcrest is an issue stop by the counseling office and speak to Mr. Parrigon. We will have a bus for those to ride from Glendale to Hillcrest and back that evening.  One lucky Glendale student who attends will win a brand new Chrome book just for attending, but you can’t win if you don’t attend!

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS)
Springfield Public Schools has implemented PBIS across all schools.  PBIS is An evidence-based practice that, when implemented with fidelity, has proven to reduce problem behaviors while increasing prosocial behaviors.  PBIS is a framework for creating safe and orderly learning environments where all students can be academically and socially successful.  Please see below for the GHS PBIS student expectations.  This year during FLIGHT class, students who meet the requirements will be allowed to travel to the cafeteria where there will be music, raffles, and other activities.

Student requirements for travel are:
  • 90% attendance (Cumulative)
  • No ISS or OSS
  • No D’s or F’s
  • Students who are drafted to a classroom for academic support will also not travel to the cafeteria
Student Attendance is Vital to Student Success
Student attendance at school is vital to student success, both academically and socially.  Please make sure your student attend school every day.  Please reach out to Emily Massey for attendance support.  Please see below for the attendance to GPA correlation chart.  Students who attend typically have a much higher GPA.

Student Attendance Requirement to Attend Dances
In order to attend a SPS dance, excluding Prom, students must meet the following requirements:
  • 90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) by a determined date prior to the dance set by the high school site administration
  • Must be in attendance the entire school day the day of the dance
  • Must not be serving ISS or OSS on the day of the dance
  • Major discipline infractions may result in non-admittance to the school dance
The max number of hours a student can miss by 9/8/23 (attendance cut-off date) and still attend the Homecoming Dance on 9/15 is 8.45 hours.  If you have a reduced seated schedule (open blocks, on-line classes, etc…) your total possible hours missed will be less.

We are working on a process for students and parents to appeal to attend the dance with less than 90% attendance.  That information will come soon.  That appeal will include medical absences with proper medical documentation, and other unique circumstances will be considered. Please look for that information in the next couple of days.

Student Attendance Requirement for Final Exam Exemptions
Students are eligible for finals exemption by meeting the following criteria:
  • 90% overall attendance (school-sponsored activities do not count as absences) per semester
  • Received no ISS or OSS for the semester
  • Passing the class with an 80% or greater prior to the final exam
  • Exempt students may take the final to improve their grade in a class; in this case, the final grade cannot hurt the student’s overall grade
  • Required to attend class during the final exam block and complete optional enrichment tasks provided
Dual credit, AP, IB, and virtual classes are not eligible for final exemptions.

Student Handbooks and Parent Signatures
Student handbooks were sent home on the first day of school.  We are required to collect a parent signature to verify receipt of that handbook.  The signature page is on the inside cover.  Please sign and return that page to your student's first block teacher or the main office.

A+ Program Updates
The A+ Program provides scholarship funds for eligible graduates to attend most Missouri community colleges and technical schools. In addition, several four-year Missouri colleges and universities offer their own scholarship for A+ qualified students. Last year our A+ graduates could earn as much as $10,000 towards their college tuition and general fees.

Glendale makes the A+ program fun by providing promotional activities and events each school year. Each year we have around 50% of graduates qualify for the A+ program. For more information about the Glendale A+ Program, students can check out their A+ CANVAS course which lists A+ Program Resources, visit the A+ website or follow us on Twitter @glendaleAplus.

If you have any questions please contact Jenny Cofield, Glendale A+ Program Coordinator.

The Branch
Students needing free food, hygiene and/or clothing supplies…  GHS is proud to have The Branch Hygiene, Clothing, and Food Outreach Program inventory available to our students at no cost!  Please see Ms. Massey or Mrs. Patton for any needs.

Student Grades
Please check your student's grades for seated courses in eSchool.  We will continue to post student grades in eSchool.  It is vital that students start strong.  Please check your student's grades online, and communicate with your student's teachers.  Our goal is that all students are academically successful, please encourage your student to submit all assignments.

If your student is taking a LAUNCH course or is fully virtual, their grades will be kept updated in Canvas.

eSchool is where you see your students' grades (completed assignments) and Canvas is where you see what they are doing, and what they will be doing (current and future assignments and learning).

    Grades & D/F Phone Calls
Grades in eSchool are the official grades for seated students.  GHS will continue sending phone messages to the homes of students who have a D or F in any of their classes. If you haven't started checking eSchool grades please do so.  If you receive the phone call please check eSchool to see what class(es) your student has the D/F. We also recommend you contact the teacher with questions, concerns, or you feel an error has been made.

For clarification, the report used to determine who receives these calls runs at 4:30 a.m.
the day you receive the call. It is possible teachers update grades during the course of the
day. Again, please check eSchool on a regular basis and direct questions to the teacher(s).
